Synopsis
In this swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers tale, where grumpy meets sunshine, the tension between April and Carter is as palpable as the Tennessee mountain air. Perfect for fans of Mia Sheridan, Nicholas Sparks, and Jennifer Hartmann.

April Simmons, a bestselling author, escapes to a secluded mountain cabin to find solace and inspiration. What she doesn’t anticipate is her infuriatingly charming neighbor, Carter Hills—a rock star with a bad-boy reputation and a heart full of scars. Their initial clash sparks fireworks, their banter sharp enough to cut through the thick mountain fog.

Despite their differences, April can’t help but be drawn to Carter's rugged charm and the way his smoldering gaze sets her pulse racing. Carter, captivated by April’s fierce independence and quick wit, finds himself battling the demons of his past while trying to resist the pull of her allure. Both carry emotional wounds: Carter from a recent betrayal, and April from a past heartbreak that left her wary of love.

As their paths continue to intertwine, the chemistry between them becomes impossible to ignore. But with every heated kiss and whispered secret, they edge closer to the precipice of heartbreak. In this secluded town, passion and peril are two sides of the same coin.

Will April and Carter give in to the fire that threatens to consume them both, or will they retreat before they’re burned? In the end, they must decide whether to take a chance on love or protect their hearts at all costs.

Blindsided is a poignant, heart-wrenching story of love and redemption, where the journey to happiness is wild and unpredictable. Book one in the Heart Song duet, this is the introduction to April and Carter’s heartbreakingly beautiful love story. It begins where False Promises ends. The book can be enjoyed on its own, with or without reading False Promises first.

Excerpt (BlindSided)

“Freshly showered, I draped a towel around my body and one around my damp hair. Something—or rather someone—caught my eyes outside.

A tall, dark figure stood in front of the large log cabin—the one I thought was a mountain lodge. The man was rummaging through the trunk of a black SUV. Even from a distance, I noticed how handsome he looked.

Longish, disheveled dark hair, a wild scruff, broad shoulders, and high cheekbones. And an ass worthy of a jeans ad.

All male and testosterone-y. Yumm.

I would’ve paid good money to run my fingers over his couple-of-days-long scruffy jaw.

“Hello, gorgeous,” I said to myself. A part of me I’d buried years ago awoke at the sight of him. I grinned. Green Mountain was definitely everything I needed.

My eyes took in the over-the-top log cabin behind him. It screamed money.

Way out of my league.

I wondered if the man was a tenant like me or if he owned the place. Not that it mattered.

Something caught his attention on his left side. He pushed back from the trunk and pivoted on himself. His plaid shirt clung to his chest and his biceps.

A beautiful red-haired woman and a little boy traipsed from down the road, hand in hand, toward him. Handsome picked the boy up and twirled him around. They shared words and laughed hard. Handsome’s arm curled around the woman’s neck, and he pressed his lips to her temple.

Perfect family.

I exhaled with a huff at this sight.

That’s what Travis and I thought we’d have someday.

Life decided it’d never happen for us. A strong pinch tightened my chest.

I’d made my peace about losing Travis, but somehow, seeing these people, all close and happy, played with the strings of my heart. My vision blurred for a second. I blinked, chasing my emotions away.

Handsome turned his head as if he sensed my gaze on him, and his eyes found mine. He stared at me for a second too long, his eyes glued to my face. My mouth went dry. Feeling like a stalker, I moved to the side, away from the window, but the towel around my naked body caught on the window handle and puddled at my feet, exposing my bare chest for everyone outside to see.

“Fuck.” I grumbled and folded my arms over me to hide my nakedness. Handsome’s eyes flared, and the corner of his lips curled into a lazy smile. Exposed, I dropped to my knees on the tile floor, hoping he saw nothing from where he stood. Who was I kidding?

Men had a sixth sense for naked chicks. No way he missed my boobs.

When I raised my head a little to see if he still stood there, Handsome and his perfect family had disappeared inside their cabin.

Warmth pooled in my cheeks. I flashed a stranger. Not just a stranger, but my neighbor. I crossed my fingers, hoping I wouldn’t run into him or his family again in the next month, or I’d die from shame. Me and my clumsy self. Damn it.

Beautifully Written Country Music Romance

I loved the beginning of Carter and April's story, they are so cute together!

As an author myself, one thing I noticed when reading "Blindsided" is how Emmanuelle's writing style is similar to mine which made the book even more enjoyable to read. 🙂 Another thing I really enjoyed about it is that it's closer to a sweet romance instead of a steamy one and the way Emmanuelle described dealing with an anxiety attack was pretty much spot on and very well-written.

One of my favorite scenes from Blindsided was when Carter taught April how to play the guitar, that was really sweet of him to do that. Two more scenes I loved was the one in the kitchen in chapter 15 and when they went sledding together.

And this was one of my favorite lines from Blindsided; “Carter Hills. The country music legend. The sexiest singer on the planet. Also known as the fit bloke who makes an entire stadium wet their panties when he plays the guitar and sings love songs.”

In conclusion, Blindsided is a great, beautifully written story with lots of both sweet and emotional moments with just the right amount of spice mixed in.

I loved this book so much and will be starting book 2 soon! 🙂🩷

LOVED it!!!

WOW.

I became obsessed instantly obsessed with the characters and how their relationship would develop, and I was not disappointed!!

Throughout the book I wanted to shake both of the main characters for different reasons, and I felt it difficult to connect with the MFC at some parts, which is the only reason I’ve given 4 stars.

If you are a fan of Elsie Silver you will LOVE this book.

I feel very fortunate to have received this copy to review, thank you Book Funnel! I will definitely be reading more by the author.

A legend re-imagined. Come back to where it began in part one of the newly re-done Pink & Country!

I originally read this book as Pink and Country, back when it was full-length, before it was slightly changed and split into a duet. I will hold on dearly to my original, signed copy of Pink.

This book, the story, the writing - all absolutely incredible! It remains pretty much the same as in its original version, with the same beloved Carter and April I fell in love with and who brought me to the entire Carter Hills Band Universe of books (which I am completely obsessed with, plus with Emmanuelle herself)!

What a beautiful story, amazing writing, and so much chemistry - between all the characters, not just Carter and April. I got lost in this one and read it so quickly. The original book was over 500 pages, so the new split for the duet is far less intimidating at about 350 for this half. Part 2 will be coming along before we know it, with the extremely emotional second half - because I know the original version, I know I can hold on to get the conclusion and see what changes may be coming along, but anyone new will be dying to find out, based on the cliffhanger where she split it!

This half has a whole lot of emotions, a whole lot of heart, and that slow burn, grumpy sunshine, angsty rockstar, next-door neighbor romance... with a head-in-the-sand pink-haired author who is clueless about who the famous musician is, and he’s loving the anonymity - especially when his crazy ex has plastered the magazines with slanderous lies about him.

I most wholeheartedly recommend this one to absolutely everybody! A 5+ star book if I ever came across one! It’s just as good as the first time I read it. I cannot wait to read the updated second half!

I received an advance copy from the author, and this is my honest feedback.
